For many women in the United States, the biggest desire when it comes to hair care in having straight hair. Think about it, straighter hair has numerous benefits! You don’t have to worry about frizz, tangles or wild curls. Straight hair is a calm, relaxed look and can be achieves through numerous treatments. At Richard Scott Salon in Mt. Kisco we offer keratin treatments to our guests who are looking for straight, healthy hair.
How does a keratin treatment work?
Keratin is a protein that is naturally found in your hair. A stylist will apply a keratin product to your hair and then use the heat of a flat iron to seal it. The overall process takes about ninety minutes or longer depending on the hair’s length and thickness.
What are the benefits to a keratin treatment?
A keratin treatment is a great way to say “farewell, frizz”! Keratin treatments are the greatest way to remove frizz from your hair. You will walk out of the salon feeling light as a feather.
What are the steps I should take after my keratin treatment?
After your keratin treatment you should wait about three to four days after getting the treatment in Mount Kisco NY. During this time the solution will properly set into your hair.
You also need to invest in a sodium-sulfate free shampoo which will help maintain the keratin treatment. Maintain your keratin treated hair well and the results can last up to two and a half months!
What if I haven’t seen the best results from a previous keratin treatment?
At Richard Scott Salon we offer the Hybrid Keratin Straightening Treatment. Take your keratin treatment to the next level. This unique process combines the properties of a Japanese Straightening with the softness and condition of a keratin treatment.
The process begins with a Japanese straightening that is followed up by a Brazilian Keratin treatment. The end result is smooth relaxed hair with the ability to still hold a curl. The process typically takes between three to four hours. Seems a bit long? Well the results are phenomenal, leaving your hair smooth, shiny and filled with body!
If you’re interested in a keratin treatment performed by one of our hair specialists at Richard Scott Salon in Mt. Kisco, or our other services such as haircuts, hair removal, microblading, and hair coloring in Chappaqua, Bedford, Armonk and Westchester NY contact us at: (914) 242-1700

Fall is here in Chappaqua, NY which means wedding season is still in full force! Fall is the best time to host a wedding because of the cool weather, and beautiful outdoor colors which are perfect for photos. When it comes to photos on your wedding day you want to make sure you and your bridal party are looking their best, why not invest in a professional makeup artist.
Hiring a makeup artist in Chappaqua, NY is a great option and has numerous benefits. Here are a few things you may be interested in when considering a makeup artist for your fall wedding.
A makeup artist is stress free!
Hiring a professional makeup artist on your wedding day will guarantee that your preparation for your big day will be completely stress free. Think about it, many brides are already anxious during the preparation process as they anticipate the moment where they get to marry the one they love, imagine having to do your hair and makeup by yourself. You may not be completely prepared for the task, which is why hiring a professional makeup artist is a stress free process. You can sit and relax while the makeup artist does everything for you!
You will wear high quality, professional grade makeup.
There is a big different between mainstream inexpensive makeup, versus professional grade products which are typically only available to you through a professional makeup artist. These products have the best results which not only will look great during the ceremony and reception, but they will be captured the best on camera. Your photographer or videographer will capture you in your true essence while you wear these great products.
Your makeup will be applied properly.
We don’t say this to offend, but let’s face it you may not have the most steady hand when it comes to makeup application which is why hiring a professional makeup artist is the best choice because this means your makeup will be applied evenly and have that professional touch. You don’t need to worry about smudged eyeliner, mascara on your eyelids or too dark of a lipstick application. A professional makeup artist will leave your face looking flawless.
Scheduling is flexible.
Many times people get a little worried when it comes to hiring a professional because sometimes that means scheduling can be a conflict. However a professional makeup artist will be able to arrive whenever needed! Hot Stone Massage in Mt. Kisco

Life can be stressful with work, school, family, social activities and responsibilities. With handling the business of everyday activities, it’s important to find periods throughout your week where you can rest and relax. A great way to pursue rest and relaxation is with a massage.
There are numerous massages a person can get, and one that our professionals at Richard Scott Salon recommend is a hot stone massage. Hot stone massages are an excellent massage method and they end in great results – total rest and relaxation.
What is a hot stone massage?
A hot stone massage is a natural therapy where warmed stones are positioned on parts of the client’s body. These stones are typically river rocks or other smooth-surfaces stones which are typically made of basalt. Before use they are heated and sanitized.
The iron from the basalt in the stone helps to retain heat during the massage. Hot stone massages have numerous benefits on both a physical and psychological level. Here are a few ways hot stone massages can benefit you.
Muscle relaxation
The heat from the stones is a major help for relaxing your muscles. This allows the massage therapist to manipulate your deep tissues in a more effective manner. Overly tense muscles can hinder the massage procedure so if your muscles are extremely stiff, the heated stones can provide the extra relaxation you will need.
Relieves pain
Most people decide to get a massage because they are experiencing tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries. A hot stone massage provides greater relief due to the intense practice of the massage. Because the hot stones help to remove the tension in your muscles that deep massage of the relaxed joints and muscles can really help with pain relief.
Quick tip: If you are experiencing pain during the massage make sure to tell your masseuse. Serious pain can cause a more serious injury.
Offers mental benefits
Massage therapy can result in not only physical benefits, but also mental health benefits. Relaxation can do a number on your body, but it has even more power over your mind. A hot stone massage can help ease some of your mental stress and tension. It can help manage some of your symptoms of anxiety and depression because a relaxed body can also relax your mind. Of course massage therapy isn’t a cure for mental health or psychiatric care, but it can really assist in those areas.
Hot stone massages are offered at Richard Scott Salon in Mt. Kisco. Our massage professionals want to welcome you to our beautiful, relaxed environment where you will be treated well, leaving relaxed and rejuvenated. – Contact Richard Scott Salon today to set up your appointment!
Benefits of going to a Nail Salon

Posted by Ricky Mason
on September 15, 2016

It’s important in the midst of the business of life to treat yourself. This could be grabbing a Starbucks drink after a busy day at work, buying that cute top you’ve been eyeing for weeks or going to the nail salon!
In Mt. Kisco, New York Richard Scott Salon offers a full service nail salon available to our clients. We want to make sure guests come, feel pampered and are treating themselves the best way they can.
Nail salons have been around for decades and are a great way to treat yourself to a professional manicure or pedicure. There are numerous benefits to going to a professional nail salon in Mt. Kisco.
You’ll receive professional service.
Most manicure services are performed by highly trained individuals. Unlike manicures done at home, you won’t have to worry about over polished nails or design mistakes. If you’re doing your nails at home it may take you a much longer time to fix any mistakes you may have made.
When your hands are in the responsibility of a professional manicurist, you can rest assured that your nails will be cared for effectively. Even if a little mistake is made, a professional can make quick, easy adjustments making your nails look even and beautiful.
You’ll experience extra pampering.
When you’re getting your nails done at a professional nail salon you will be provided with the benefit of experiencing extra pampering during the nail care process. Not only will you have your nails professionally painted but you will also receive a warm towel treatment, moisturizing and a hand massage. Depending on the salon some even offer short massages while you’re drying your nails!
Even the atmosphere offers pampering in itself. Many nail salons have a relaxing environment that promotes total wellness and relaxation. You can get more value for your money as many nail salons ensure that their customers are taken care of in a relaxing, pampering environment.
You get more variety.
A well-equipped nail salon provides their customers with a large variety of nail colors from matte, to sheer to glitter. If you’re going to do your nails at home, you are limited to the selection of nail colors because you’re only relying on what you have at home.
At a nail salon you have a wide range of products to choose from, but not only for colors. Many nail salons now offer regular polish, gel and shellac. You can also get fancy with a beautiful French manicure or pedicure for special events or just to treat yourself!
At Richard Scott Salon we want to be sure you’re taken care of. We offer nail services so you can come in, relax and be pampered to. So treat yourself to a day at the nail salon at Richard Scott Salon in Mt. Kisco!

Hair Styling Tips in Mt. Kisco

Posted by Ricky Mason
on September 15, 2016

What is one thing many Americans need on a consistent basis throughout the year? Can you take any hints – you may have guessed right; a hair stylist? Men, women and children are constantly getting haircuts and different stylings throughout the year.
At Richard Scott Salon located in Mt. Kisco, New York our hair styling professionals will give you exactly what you want and make your hairstyle turn heads all season long. Hair care is one of the most important aspects of a great hairstyle that stays looking good all season long. Here are a few tips we have for you.
1. Know your hair type.
The first and most important, know your hair type. We all are different, and that is a great thing. This especially goes for the kind of hair we have. Some hair is coarse, some is smooth, some heads are filled with curls, or some have straight strands. Hair can be long, short, medium, black, brown, blonde, purple. All hair is different and identifying the kind of hair you have will help determine what the best styling methods will work for you.
2. Know how to properly blow out your hair.
Often time, air drying hair can leave it a little wild. Strands sticking out in all directions, especially with the August heat, can leave the house looking like one of those troll dolls from the 90s. This is where the miracle of blow dryers for your hair comes into play. They’re a quick, easy way to get your hair dry and ready for whatever you need to conquer for the day.
Knowing how to properly blow out your hair is the key to making it look good for you hair type. Start at the roots with your hair dryer set at a warm temperature and work your way down your hair to the ends. Starting at the roots will give your hair extra volume so it will look great all day long!
3. Maintain your heat.
We love our hair curlers and straighteners and we can really get a lot out of them. There’s the great a product called heat spray that protects your hair during drying so you don’t burn your hair to a crisp. Be cautious with how much heat you use on a daily basis. Too much heat, even with protection spray, can leave your hair dry and weary. It can even lose its natural luster, so always be conscious of how much heat you are using on your luscious locks.
4. Research products that would be best for your hair type.
There are a number of different creams, serums, shampoos, conditioners and sprays for all the hair types you can imagine. Identifying what your hair needs will help determine what the best products are for you. Read the labels and try a few different products.!
5. Be creative!
One of the best parts about hair styling is that you get to channel your own creativity into your styles. There are braids and up dos for girls of all types and even really cool cuts and styling treatments for guys. Your hair can match your personal style and keep you looking great all season long.
If you think it may be time to get a new hairstyle, contact us today at Richard Scott Salon. We’d be happy to help you find a look that best fits you!

We are now offering a new breakthrough in skincare by SkinCeuticals

Posted by Ricky Mason
on February 27, 2014

Ask our skin care specialists about this exciting new product. The latest SkinCeuticals brainchild is Resveratrol B E ($145)—the brand has a habit of labeling its products with its star ingredient—a night time intensive antioxidant that aims to boost the skin’s own defense system to help the daily repair process and prevent damage. In a 12-week clinical study, Resveratrol B E showed that radiance, firmness, elasticity, smoothness, and density were significantly improved.
The idea behind using resveratrol is not new (many other skincare brands, including Caudalie, have harnessed the molecule’s anti-aging power) but in this version, Resveratrol B E is used, which has a maximized concentration of 1% pure, stable resveratrol. This formulation is enhanced with 0.5% baicalin and 1% vitamin E to help bolster the skin’s natural antioxidant defenses.

Chlorine and Clarifing Treatments

For all the swimmers out there it's time to get build up of chlorine out of your hair. Chlorine is found in most pools and has a coating effect on your hair making it brittle and sometimes green.
Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa is offering clarifying treatments during this season or you can simply purchase our most popular home care clarifying shampoo by Nioxin
CLARIFYING CLEANSER
REMOVES CHLORINE, MINERAL DEPOSITS AND STYLING BUILD-UP FROM HAIR/
HOW IT WORKS
Clarifying Cleanser gently neutralizes hard water mineral deposits, chlorine and environmental and styling product build-up.
Clarifying is a specific type of hair wash where one removes "buildup". Clarifying essentially strips the impurities, removing all product, minerals (from water, usually hard water), sebum, debris (skin cells), dirt and grime. It is best to follow up a clarifying cleanser with moisture such as from conditioner, leave-ins or oils.
Facts and Myths About Relaxers and Keratin Treatments

Posted by Ricky Mason
on June 26, 2013

Hybrid Straitening Keratin Treatment
$499.00 and up
This amazing process is our most recent break through in frizz and curl control! Take your Keratin Treatment to the next level. This unique procedure combines the properties of a Japanese Straightening with the softness and condition of a Keratin Treatment. Expand on your styling possibilities be it curly or strait, with exceptionally manageable hair. Unlike a Japanese Straightening treatment, your hair will hold a curl from a curling iron or roller set. You can wear your hair strait while maintaining its natural body. The treatment takes 3 to 5 hours from start to finish. Home care will require a sulfate free shampoo and the treatment will last up to 4 months.
Conventional Relaxers
$175.00 and up
Better known as a chemical straightening treatment. Ammonium Thioglycolate solution breaks down the bonds of the hair and restructures the shape when neutralized with an acidic solution. The process leaves the hair permanently straight for 3 months. You must wait a minimum of48 hours to shampoo after a conventional relaxer. For optimum condition and to ensure predictable results, other chemical services should be performed 1 week prior or after this procedure.
Japanese Straightener
$600.00 and up
Our Japanese Straightener has a higher Ph. solution than a conventional relaxer. The process is long and intensive. Hair is processed under a veil of saran wrap for 30 minutes. It is then rinsed and neutralized with an acidic solution to bring the hair’s Ph. level back to a 7.0. The hair is then dried and small sections are flat ironed until every strand is pin strait. This process will make the tightest curls and frizzy hair permanently straight. It takes 4-5 hours and it is recommended to wait 3 days before shampooing. 4
Keratin Treatment
$300.00 and up
The misconception of this process is that it is a relaxer or straightener. It is not. It is actually a smoothening treatment with variations in result. This process works differently than relaxers. When hair is damaged the cuticle becomes cracked and broken like the shingles of a roof. The Keratin and Keratin with collagen fill in the rough surface of cuticle. The hair is blown and flat ironed at 450 degrees, sealing each strand and smoothing out the cuticle surface. The result is soft hair that reflects light, shines and becomes significantly healthier, relaxed and smooth. Excessive porosity is diminished thus cutting drying time in half. The process takes about 2-3 hours and the hair cannot be shampooed for 1 day. Coppola requires 3 days before shampooing is recommended. During that time, under no circumstances do you use clips, ponytail or barrettes, as they will leave a line of demarcation. Keratin treatments are safe after color services and last up to 3 months and significantly reduce drying time and difficulty controlling curl and frizz.

We were recently recognized by Westchester Magazine for our efforts to help the community during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. This year we are pleased to announce that we are the proud winners of 2 Best of Westchester titles. One is Best Local Hero as described in the attached article. The other title was Best Facial. I wasn't surprised at all. Our estheticians are truly the best.http://www.westchestermagazine.com/Westchester-Magazine/July-2013/How-Westchesters-Businesses-Helped-Victims-of-Hurricane-Sandy/
We are now offering Dermaplaning in our spa.

on June 21, 2013

We are now offering Dermaplaning in our spa. Treatments typically take 45 minutes with a cleansing prior to the service and followed by a serum, moisturizer and SPF sunscreen.
Dermaplaning is currently one of the hottest trends in skin care. It is a safe, gentle method that exfoliates and rejuvenates the skin and leaves it feeling healthy and vibrant. An Esthetician grade sterile blade is stroked along the skin to gently remove dead skin cells from the epidermis, leaving your skin with a very smooth surface.
If your concerns are fine lines, and or wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, or acne scarring, in some cases, not all laser treatments are going to be the most effective and quickest way to deliver dramatic results. This treatment can show immediate results, however can also prep the skin for laser. If laser is not in the budget, this treatment is a great alternative to getting the skin looking and feeling more evenly textured, healthy, youthful, and bright.
Advantages
~ Smoothes the skin
~ Improves hyper pigmentation
~ Helps fine line
~ Removes vellus (fine) hair temporarily
~ Improves acne scarring appearance

It gives us great pleasure to recap our fundraising event and 10 year anniversary party to share with our readers. We would like to thank WAG Magazine for posting these photos of our memorable event. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151491322859707&set=a.10150656035319707.415072.54521034706&type=1&theater
On March 13th we hosted a party with 3 thoughts in mind.
1.We partnered with Elle Magazine and P&G to drive new clients into the area. This was an annual Elle event hosted in a different venue each year. It's a tremendous honor to be part of an event such as this. Elle Magazine sent out hundreds of Evites to their local subscribers in an effort to share in a red carpet meet and greet at the Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa at 15-17 South Moger Avenue in Mt. Kisco. We offered consultations, tours of the grand establishment, refreshments and music, as we introduced our business to new clients and new services to our current clients. There were 150 plus in attendance and the evening was a true success.
2. We celebrated the milestone achievement of our 10 year anniversary in the town of Mt. Kisco. Our staff, friends and clients danced the night away in our 7000 sq. ft salon.
3. We felt that dedicating the night to a charitable cause would make it more rewarding.
I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers (HHH) benefit for fellow beauty professionals impacted by Hurricane Sandy, on December 9 at Canoe Studios in New York City. My partner Joseph Norris, salon staff and I have been so greatly moved by the show of unified support at the event and decided to involve our salon and our Mount Kisco community in doing something that will assist the efforts to help hairdressers that have lost their homes and businesses.
There are many hairdressers that have lost everything and every dime we can raise towards helping out and giving them a new start.
The Disaster Relief Fund is particularly dear to us at Richard Scott as we are no strangers to the devastating effects of disaster. In 2007, our business was very nearly wiped out of existence after an unfortunate fire but thankfully we have been able to rebuild it. Since that difficult time in our history we have moved from strength to strength and are an important fixture in the village of Mount Kisco, NY.
We are hoping to be able to help others achieve the same progressive recovery and not only provide financial assistance through fund-raising but moral support and reassurance. For those affected by devastation the horizon can appear dark and the future bleak. It can be helpful to hear from those that have gone through the same despair that survival is more than possible. Richard Scott is thriving now and so can others.
We were happy to announce that we raised $4000.00 in donations and our site to continue accepting donations on line will be open for the next year. You can still donate by following this link below.

Pamper Your Way to Perfect Peace
Posted by Liz Slaughter
on March 8, 2013

Whether you realize it or not, it’s pretty easy to get into the routine of putting yourself last. This is especially true when you’re juggling careers, spouses, kids and recreational commitments. Sometimes you may often wonder what “me” time is anymore, and that is precisely when it’s time to stop this emotionally unhealthy cycle from continuing any further. In this installment of Inside Out, we’ll explore ways to pamper yourself and appreciate who you are and all of the good things you do on a daily basis. Often when you think of giving to ourselves, a large purchase for something we’ve wanted for a long time comes to mind, and while that is one method that’s great to feel good, it should only be used very rarely to avoid unhealthy addictive patterns and waste. There are many ways to reward ourselves that we could all find benefit in making a habit of implementing so that we can each remain as much of a priority in our own lives as everything else.
Material Pampering
Most people love a good shopping spree and are open to the idea at just about any time, but while loading up on the latest styles from the clearance racks of your favorite stores is fun, there is also a bigger picture. Buying yourself something (or a few things) is nice as a reward for a trying work week, losing a few pounds, maintaining all your commitments or even wanting to look good for your loved one. It’s a fun way to ensure that you’re always on your “To-Do” list. Since this is financial pampering it should be done in moderation, every month or six weeks you should splurge a little on yourself…and no one else.
Physical Pampering
Sometimes all it takes for you to put yourself as a priority over everything else is lying back and relaxing, completely zoning out everything around you, even just for a moment. That’s what physical pampering is, and it comes in many forms. Soaking in a luxuriating bubble bath for an hour with candles and soft music, going to a spa for a massage or beauty treatment, indulging in your favorite decadent food, getting your hair or makeup done (complete with a new style or color) or hitting up the salon for a mani/pedi are just a few ways to physically pamper yourself. The best thing about physical pampering is that you feel gratified by the experience and see the results instantly!
Environmental Pampering
Although it sounds simple, something as easy as changing your surroundings, even for a couple of hours, can make a world of difference. Pampering yourself by your choice of surroundings is a lovely and visually stimulating method. Sitting in the park soaking up a little nature, checking out the latest art exhibits at your local museum or even catching up on all those movies you haven’t seen are little ways to change your atmosphere from the office to home, and back again. In addition, going out for a walk in your neighborhood in the evenings is a way to not only change your atmosphere, but stay healthy as well.
Take out your calendar and add “me time” to at least an hour of time one day per week. Be strict with yourself about following through. Remember the key to feeling beautiful starts with you and how you feel inside!

Winter hair nightmare!
Posted by Nathalia Valesquez
on February 14, 2013

From bad hair day to bad hair season
Experts say “harsh winter weather and the drastic change of temperature, can be hair’s number 1 enemy”
So please put down the scissors and let me walk you through some steps and hair advice to prevent that unwanted “winter hair”.
Shampoo and Conditioner play a very important role during winter season:
-Opt for creamy shampoo that may contain the following ingredients:
Lanolin, protein, silicone or shea butter.
(Any of the Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa employees will be more than happy to help you
choose the right shampoo and conditioner)
-Try to use lukewarm water instead of hot water.
-Indulge your hair as often as every two weeks to a Conditioning treatment or even a glaze service to add shine and conditioning to your hair during this season.
-Make sure to have a silk pillowcases during this season as well.
So instead of going from hat hair to static electricity or even split ends to dry frizz, do your hair a favor and follow some of these steps to avoid the “hairy look” for this season.
Inside Out Beauty ~ February 2013 Edition
Posted by Liz Slaughter
on February 1, 2013

Most of us have already broken our New Year’s resolutions by now. For many of us, those abandoned commitments had a lot to do with how we would improve our appearance in one way or another. It’s totally natural to feel down about your appearance every now and then, but that doesn’t mean that it should become a habit either. Whether you’ve fallen out of love with your hair, makeup or are struggling with your weight, the larger issue about not feeling your best comes from inside. Making subtle adjustments to the inner you, can make the outer you look so much better! February’s Inside Out Beauty installment is about incorporating daily affirmations into your life that highlight your inner and outer beauty. Positivity radiates even more than an expert bronzer application, so let your light shine through!
Spoken Affirmations
When you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, get into the habit of saying positive things about yourself that make you the person you are and how those things benefit you and those around you. This helps you feel beautiful because the way we feel about ourselves is the essential and most important step to being truly beautiful, both inside and out. Don’t just say your spoken affirmations once a day, say them as often as you like, preferably while looking into the mirror, so that you are looking at the person behind the words. Remember, speaking positivity makes it easier for positive things to come your way.
Visual Affirmations
Some women like to have a vision board of great things that they have achieved or future goals that they hope to attain. This gives you both, things to be proud of and things to aspire to. There is also something called the “sticky note method” where you place sticky note(s) on your mirror with all of the positive things about yourself, your life and your goals. Many times when we write things down it helps us to remember them and actually absorb them so they become a part of our mindset. If the mirror isn’t your thing, you could also place the notes at your desk, on the dashboard of your car or on top of your daily planner. Additionally, each time you achieve one of your goals, replace it with another to continue growth. Don’t forget to reward yourself for tiny victories along the way.
Physical Affirmations
Doing things to make yourself feel and look better is also an essential part of embracing your inner beauty that ultimately radiates on the outside. It could be something as simple as soaking in a luxuriating bubble bath at the end of the day, shopping for a new outfit or shoes to reward yourself for losing a few pounds, trying out a new hairstyle/makeup look, going for a walk/run or any exercise to maintain your health or de-stress after a long day at work or preparing or treating yourself to a meal. These things make you feel better and look better, but they work doubly well when combined with the spoken and visual affirmations.
Remember the key to feeling beautiful starts with you and how you feel inside!
~ Happy February!
Let's get Victor's Viewpoint on Hair Color and Style
Posted by Victor Tripaldi
on January 30, 2013

Hello my name is Victor T. For the past ten years I have had the pleasure of working at the Richard Scott Salon & Day Spa. Being a part of this upscale salon has proved to be wonderful, exciting and educationally satisfying for me. As a multi-faceted hair expert, one of my specialties is formulating hair color. It’s a challenging task to the say the least, however, as an educated hair colorist, I can achieve any desired result that is obtainable in theory.
As we all know, every strand of hair possesses its own unique porosity and texture. These characteristics determine how the hair will absorb and reflect color. An experienced hair colorist eliminates the guesswork when taking these factors into consideration.
H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) is a natural oxidant. When moisture in the atmosphere comes into contact with the oxygen embedded in the hair, a natural lightening occurs. We call this oxidation and we see it every day as the hair color dissipates. We often use glazes to refresh color safely and effectively. As a P&G exclusive salon, we recommend Color Touch by Wella (non ammonia color) to refresh hair that has faded due to oxidation.
During winter month’s warm and dark tones tend to oxidize less due to a reduced amount of exposure to the sun. I must say that during the winter months brunettes and red stay stronger and more vibrant than they do in the summer. I recently had the pleasure of returning the color on a blonde client back to a rich brunette. This client of mine was a beautiful young lady with beautiful porcelain skin and piercing blue eyes. She wanted to try something new and exciting with her natural blonde hair. After my professional consult, we decided to make her color a deep red with a hint of brown for depth resulting in haircolor with exceptional shine that was simply incredible. It was a refreshing seasonal change and she could not of have been happier…
As an expert hair colorist, I am most proficient in blondes; both creating new shades and highlighting with contrast. As I have many years of experience with the foil technique, I am also presently using my painting techniques on many clients requesting the very current and popular Ombre’ trend.
Although my specialty is color, I am a highly trained and professional hair-cutting technician. I enjoy working on long hair and strive to keep my clients style looking fresh and new with out sacrificing length. Be it long and flowing or short and sassy, I find haircutting to be exciting and enjoyable while keeping my clients happy. I earned the confidence of my clients therefore they allow me artistic freedom to cut and color their hair to my discretion however; I always consult first so we are clear on the desired finished look.
The most favorable finishing touch of coarse is when I escort my client to Michele, our gifted make-up specialist to complete their look. She compliments any style with her beautiful make-up artistry.
Nothing compares to the fun and satisfaction I get in making my clients beautiful at the legendary Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa.

PulsedBeauty
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): Information, Treatment, Benefits
Unfortunately, no one can prevent aging. We all get older; but you can prevent the effects aging has on your skin. Intense pulsed light is an advanced light therapy treatment; developed to dramatically reduce the effects of aging by erasing sunspots, fine lines and broken capillaries. Intense pulsed light is also an approved method for hair removal, and works much faster than most other laser hair removal treatments.
What is it?
Intense pulsed light, also known as IPL, is the use of high intensity light rays in short intervals of time. The rays of light are often administered in pulses, or wave like patterns, which is how the treatment earned its name. Most any candidate can receive Intense Pulsed Light treatment, and the technology has proved highly effective for those individuals with thick, dark hair or heavy discoloration on their skin. The treatment can be administered on almost any part of the body, however it is best to avoid the extremely sensitive areas of your skin, such as directly around the eyes, lips, nose and ears.
How does it work?
The intense pulsed light rays are delivered through a hand held device, or a stationary robotic arm that is controlled by a computer. The wand or arm is positioned over the area receiving the treatment and the light rays are administered in brief, repetitive spurts. The intensity of the light allows it to penetrate deep into your skin, reaching the root of your hair follicle. The root, or bulb, of each individual hair is the most effective area to target for long lasting hair removal, and is also where the majority of melanin, or skin pigmentation is concentrated. The light is then transformed into heat by the cells in your skin and essentially vaporizes unwanted hair and melanin buildup. By targeting this specific area, unwanted pigmentation and skin discolorations can be reversed and at the same time the hair is removed from the follicle, leaving behind smooth, even toned skin.
Benefits
Unlike topical hair removal treatments, which only temporarily remove hair until it grows back, intense pulsed light therapy actually reduces the number of hairs that will grow back. Studies have shown that up to 85% – 90% of hair can be permanently removed after a few rounds of treatment. Oftentimes more than one round of treatment is required, but patients have seen the desired effects in as little as 2 treatments. Most patients elect to receive anywhere between 2 and 8 treatments. These treatments can be given 4 to 6 weeks apart, allowing time for the remaining hair to begin growing back. Intense pulsed light therapy is great for those individuals with a hectic schedule. The actual treatment itself takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes and the recovery time needed is almost none, with very little visible side effects present after the treatment. The skin will be a little tender after each treatment so it is best to provide additional protection by applying a heavy moisturizer and sun block immediately afterwards.

Making subtle changes to your hair color is a wonderful way to segway into a totally hot new color for spring without the shock. Hairstyles and color for 2013

Posted by Ricky Mason
on December 5, 2012

This coming year we will mix and match everything at the Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa. Be it hair or fashion, your style is based upon self-expression. Leave any opinion of matching colors and prints behind. Our inspiration for this season comes from the 90’s! Ready for overlay haircuts and platform shoes? They are both coming back big time! We are seeing clashing colors, bold prints and varying textures playing off each other to make a fashion statement. Just look at some of our stylists to see what I mean.
Defined structure with a touch of playfulness comes to mind as we are showing bold strong lines and combining softness to the looks. Razors and shears are used to create added texture more and more this year. Do you have curly hair but feel that you have to straiten it? I advise my clients to, “Embrace their curls”. Don’t forget that the right product can make the difference between great curls and bad frizz. Try smoothening your curls with Wella Enrich Straitening Cream or Potion 9 by Sebastian then seal it in with Sebastian Texturizer Gel. Do you have straight hair and always fight with your round brush for volume? Try Wella Ultra Body Mousse for some fullness or opt for a sleek, head hugging cut to frame your face and bring out your best features. Gel Forte’ by Sebastian can tame the waves and give you that sleek smooth finish. Always accompany a short hair look with the right make-up. Full sexy lips and long lashes are my favorite. Stop by the Denina Make-up Suite, soon to be located in the front of our salon, to purchase cosmetics or learn how to apply your make-up like a pro.
Recent advances in Wella hair color with a Triluxiv technology make for an endless pallet that our colorists can choose from. These High Density Color Molecules deliver a superior color unlike that of the past. Dipping seems to be the craze. Just the ends dipped in bleach and toned with vibrant colors, giving a touch of bold color on the ends. This season we are also seeing pinks and corals to enhance blondes and redheads. On brunettes we are adding deep reflective metallic and stone like hues like that of a rain-slicked street at night. We are also showing strong blues and greens on dark brown and black hair. It’s quite striking and very fashionable. We utilize Color Touch demi-color along with Pastel developer by Wella to create these sheer soft tones. Don’t forget to always use a color safe shampoo to extend the life of your hair color.
Our inspirations for new trends come from our everyday surroundings. And what a better place to be inspired than New York? We live in an area full of color and versatility. Inspiration for can be found all around us. Check out the streets, the trees, colorful houses and the sky above then get creative! In an area that is so energetic how can you not be inspired to express your style?
