10 Year Anniversary Fundraising ELLE Magazine Event

Posted by Ricky Mason
on March 18, 2013

It gives us great pleasure to recap our fundraising event and 10 year anniversary party to share with our readers.
On March 13th we hosted a party with 3 thoughts in mind.
1.We partnered with Elle Magazine and P&G to drive new clients into the area. This was an annual Elle event hosted in a different venue each year. It's a tremendous honor to be part of an event such as this. Elle Magazine sent out hundreds of Evites to their local subscribers in an effort to share in a red carpet meet and greet at the Richard Scott Salon and Day Spa at 15-17 South Moger Avenue in Mt. Kisco. We offered consultations, tours of the grand establishment, refreshments and music, as we introduced our business to new clients and new services to our current clients. There were 150 plus in attendance and the evening was a true success.
2. We celebrated the milestone achievement of our 10 year anniversary in the town of Mt. Kisco. Our staff, friends and clients danced the night away in our 7000 sq. ft salon.
3. We felt that dedicating the night to a charitable cause would make it more rewarding.
I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers (HHH) benefit for fellow beauty professionals impacted by Hurricane Sandy, on December 9 at Canoe Studios in New York City. My partner Joseph Norris, salon staff and I have been so greatly moved by the show of unified support at the event and decided to involve our salon and our Mount Kisco community in doing something that will assist the efforts to help hairdressers that have lost their homes and businesses.
There are many hairdressers that have lost everything and every dime we can raise towards helping out and giving them a new start.
The Disaster Relief Fund is particularly dear to us at Richard Scott as we are no strangers to the devastating effects of disaster. In 2007, our business was very nearly wiped out of existence after an unfortunate fire but thankfully we have been able to rebuild it. Since that difficult time in our history we have moved from strength to strength and are an important fixture in the village of Mount Kisco, NY.
We are hoping to be able to help others achieve the same progressive recovery and not only provide financial assistance through fund-raising but moral support and reassurance. For those affected by devastation the horizon can appear dark and the future bleak. It can be helpful to hear from those that have gone through the same despair that survival is more than possible. Richard Scott is thriving now and so can others.
We were happy to announce that we raised $4000.00 in donations and our site to continue accepting donations on line will be open for the next year.

Pamper Your Way to Perfect Peace
Posted by Liz Slaughter
on March 8, 2013

Whether you realize it or not, it’s pretty easy to get into the routine of putting yourself last. This is especially true when you’re juggling careers, spouses, kids and recreational commitments. Sometimes you may often wonder what “me” time is anymore, and that is precisely when it’s time to stop this emotionally unhealthy cycle from continuing any further. In this installment of Inside Out, we’ll explore ways to pamper yourself and appreciate who you are and all of the good things you do on a daily basis. Often when you think of giving to ourselves, a large purchase for something we’ve wanted for a long time comes to mind, and while that is one method that’s great to feel good, it should only be used very rarely to avoid unhealthy addictive patterns and waste. There are many ways to reward ourselves that we could all find benefit in making a habit of implementing so that we can each remain as much of a priority in our own lives as everything else.
Material Pampering
Most people love a good shopping spree and are open to the idea at just about any time, but while loading up on the latest styles from the clearance racks of your favorite stores is fun, there is also a bigger picture. Buying yourself something (or a few things) is nice as a reward for a trying work week, losing a few pounds, maintaining all your commitments or even wanting to look good for your loved one. It’s a fun way to ensure that you’re always on your “To-Do” list. Since this is financial pampering it should be done in moderation, every month or six weeks you should splurge a little on yourself…and no one else.
Physical Pampering
Sometimes all it takes for you to put yourself as a priority over everything else is lying back and relaxing, completely zoning out everything around you, even just for a moment. That’s what physical pampering is, and it comes in many forms. Soaking in a luxuriating bubble bath for an hour with candles and soft music, going to a spa for a massage or beauty treatment, indulging in your favorite decadent food, getting your hair or makeup done (complete with a new style or color) or hitting up the salon for a mani/pedi are just a few ways to physically pamper yourself. The best thing about physical pampering is that you feel gratified by the experience and see the results instantly!
Environmental Pampering
Although it sounds simple, something as easy as changing your surroundings, even for a couple of hours, can make a world of difference. Pampering yourself by your choice of surroundings is a lovely and visually stimulating method. Sitting in the park soaking up a little nature, checking out the latest art exhibits at your local museum or even catching up on all those movies you haven’t seen are little ways to change your atmosphere from the office to home, and back again. In addition, going out for a walk in your neighborhood in the evenings is a way to not only change your atmosphere, but stay healthy as well.
Take out your calendar and add “me time” to at least an hour of time one day per week. Be strict with yourself about following through. Remember the key to feeling beautiful starts with you and how you feel inside!
